In a viral video, a Toys “R” Us warehouse manager is seen giving his team a pep talk one last time with the store’s famous jingle.
“Nobody expected that he was going to do that,” Lisa Abendan Grammer, the employee who took the video, told Global News. “For me, it was really cute.”
About 180 Toys “R” Us stores across the U.S. will be closed in the coming months after the company filed for bankruptcy protection in 2017. Locations in Canada will continue to operate.
Grammer has been with the company for over 17 years, working as a machine operator in the distribution centre and a gift wrapper for online orders.
In early April, she captured a video that has since gone viral with close to 15,000 views as of publishing date.
The video shows her boss Brad Douglas singing to team members of the “dotcom” department in Lee’s Summit, Mo., during a meeting. Douglas is seen holding the brand’s mascot, Geoffrey the Giraffe, as he serenades his team with the Toys “R” Us jingle on its last day. In the song, he adds his own lyrics and tells his team to finish off safely and with style.
Douglas gave Grammer permission to post the video on Facebook, which she did right in the parking lot before leaving work, she said.
“He can make your day, make it bright,” she added. “When you talk to him, he’s all smiles all the time.”
