The stage is set for an epic showdown of invisible strings and rock ‘n’ roll swagger as the Canadian Air Guitar Championships return for the 2025 season! With events in Montreal, Ottawa, Kamloops, and Toronto, it all culminates at the Canadian Air Guitar Championships in Toronto on June 7th, 2025. Hosted at The Velvet Underground, this electrifying event promises to be a night of wild antics, high-flying riffs, and air-shredding performances.
In partnership with the Air Guitar World Championships in Oulu, Finland, the Canadian Air Guitar Championships bring together air guitar enthusiasts from coast to coast to showcase their skills. Contestants will channel their inner rock gods, goddesses, and deities, unleashing their creativity and passion in an exhilarating display of air guitar mastery. The winner will be flown to Finland to represent Canada at the 28th Air Guitar World Championships this August. There, they will face off against Zachary “Ichabod Fame” Knowles, the current reigning Canadian and World Air Guitar Champion!
“Winning the World Air Guitar Championship, and the hurricane of experiences that followed, didn’t even feel real,” said Zachary “Ichabod Fame” Knowles, the 2025 Canadian and World Air Guitar Champion. “I feel blessed to be surrounded by the Air Guitar community, and I’m excited to see both veterans and newcomers rock out at the Canadian Air Guitar competitions this summer. We need Air Guitar now more than ever, and I believe that Canada will have a very strong showing at Worlds in August.”
More than just a spectacle of musical prowess, the Canadian Air Guitar Championships also rock out for goodness sake. This year’s events are proud to support the Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund, a charitable organization dedicated to promoting reconciliation and healing in Canada through awareness, education, and action.
“An ancient air guitar proverb is that when you’re holding an air guitar, you can’t be holding a gun. By adopting their air guitar persona and rocking out with us, contestants not only put on a wicked show but also contribute to a meaningful cause,” said Genevieve “The Phoenix” LeBlanc, Co-director of Air Guitar Canada and 2017 Canadian National Air Guitar Champion. “We’re thrilled to partner with the Air Guitar World Championships and to support the Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund in their important work. It’s awesome to be able to do something that’s so unapologetically silly and fun while making the world a bit of a better place!”
Competitors from across Canada will face off in their respective regional competitions, winning their way to represent their cities at the Canadian National Air Guitar Championships. Competitors can prepare their own 60-second songs in advance, or step up out of the audience as a “Brave Soul” and pick from a list of prepared tracks. Only the best will advance to the final round, where all competitors must compete head-to-head with the same song, decided by an audience vote. Generous audience members can “Boost the Ballot” by donating dollars to the Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund, with each dollar counting as a vote – that’s democracy, baby! Whether you’re a seasoned air guitar aficionado or simply looking for a night of fun and philanthropy, the Canadian Air Guitar Championships have something for everyone.
