Anya’s Story
Anya passed away September 3rd, 2018 after an 8 year battle with leukemia. She was an extreme fighter and passionate about giving back to other families in the same situation even during her tough battle. To give you an idea of her demeanour, when Santa Clause came to see her at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto during her bone marrow transplant and asked her what she wanted for Christmas, she replied with “Presents for all of the sick kids here in the hospital”. Her braveness is unbelievable and really is an inspiring little girl to a lot of people.
We are looking to use the Anya Martinez Memorial to raise money to support other families battling cancer. The fight is hard enough and being able to make sure you give your child every chance at winning is a must and we want to continue to help.
Another great example of Anya’s mindset is, just before one of her relapses her father went to South Africa for work and just as he was departing for the airport she ran to the door with her piggy bank asking him to give the money she had saved to the people who need it most in South Africa. Her kind heart inspired so many and want to keep her memory alive honouring those whom are battling.
