Launch of Skills Advance Ontario – Construct Your Career

Brantford (August 6, 2020) – Official launch of the Skills Advance Ontario program titled Construct Your Career.
St. Leonard’s Community Services in partnership with Conestoga College and Brant Skills Centre are excited to announce the launch of this new project. This training program will provide 60 participants between now and March 31st, 2021, with hands on technical training to pursue a career in the construction sector.

Participants will receive free essential skills training in key areas like math and communication skills, employment readiness training and technical training in carpentry, plumbing and electrical. The goal of the program is to provide entry level knowledge in 3 key construction areas. This knowledge will allow participants to enter the construction sector in entry level roles and in some cases start a path towards completing an apprenticeship in the construction sector. The construction sector is in high demand and they are struggling to find quality skilled labour, this project will help to support skilled labour in entering the field.

“The construction sector and the skilled trades offer solid career opportunities,” said Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development. “That’s why we’re supporting training initiatives that help people prepare for good jobs as we carefully reopen the economy.”
“This investment will have a positive impact on our local economy,” said Will Bouma, MPP for Brantford-Brant. “This means more jobs in Brantford—Brant and we are glad to support the work done by St. Leonard’s Community Services.”

On August 12th the Construct Your Career program will host a Virtual Open House and start our Community Tool Drive at 225 Fairview, Brantford ON. Staff will be available to collect any donated tools during the month of August; these tools will provide essential equipment to help our job seekers when starting their career in the field.
